Hon. Eugene F. Pigott, Jr. Of Counsel

Hon. Eugene F. Pigott, Jr. brings decades of distinguished legal experience to Pigott Law Group. He joined his children in private practice following a remarkable tenure in New York’s judiciary as both an attorney and judge. Judge Pigott was appointed by Governor George E. Pataki in 2006 and served as an Associate Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals—the state's highest court, until reaching the mandatory retirement age in 2016.

Not one to sit idly by, his judicial service did not end there. Rather than step away entirely, Judge Pigott returned to the trial bench and entered the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution. As a mediator, he has helped resolve hundreds of cases, working closely with attorneys and clients to reach just and efficient outcomes.

Judge Pigott began his academic journey at LeMoyne College in Rochester, New York, before attending SUNY Buffalo School of Law. His legal education was briefly put on hold from 1968 to 1970. In this time he served in the U.S. Army, where he went from interpreting the law to languages, as he was deployed to Vietnam as a Vietnamese interpreter. Upon returning home, he completed his Juris Doctor in 1973 and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1974.

His legal career began in Buffalo, where he practiced at Offermann, Fallon, Mahoney & Adner. He was appointed Erie County Attorney in 1982 and later became chief trial counsel at Offermann, Cassano, Pigott & Greco. In 1997, Governor Pataki appointed him to the New York State Supreme Court. A year later, he was designated to the Appellate Division, Fourth Department, and on February 16, 2000, was named Presiding Justice. His appointment to the Court of Appeals in 2006 by the New York State Senate marked the culmination of a judicial career defined by fairness, legal scholarship, and public service.

Today, Judge Pigott resides in Grand Island, New York, with his wife Peggy. He frequently travels to spend time with his children and five lovely grandchildren, staying actively involved both in family life and in his continued commitment to the legal profession.
